HOW TO GET TO FAIRFIELD MOUNTAINS RESORT
747 BUFFALO CREEK ROAD
LAKE LURE, NORTH CAROLINA
Fairfield Mountains is accessible from Interstate Highways 26, 40 and
85.
FROM I-26: Take Exit #67 (old exit 36 - Columbus/Tryon
Exit). Turn onto Highway #108 East, go 6 miles to Mill Spring, North Carolina.
Turn on Highway #9 North, go 11 miles. Turn right on Highway #64/74-A
East. Go 4-5 miles. Turn left on Bill’s Creek Road (State Road #1008)
Go 2.5 miles and turn left on Buffalo Creek Road. Go 1 mile to the Fairfield
Mountains Registration Office (large white building with green trim) on
the left.
FROM I-40: Take the Marion/Sugar Hill Road Exit #81.
Turn South off exit ramp onto Sugar Hill Road (State Road #1001), go 4.5
miles. Bear right again (end of a red fence) and continue on Sugar Hill/Montford
Cove Road. Go 7 miles and turn right on Bill’s Creek Road (State
Road #1008). After 7.5 miles, turn right on Buffalo Creek Road, then 1
mile to the Fairfield Mountains Registration Office (large white building
with green trim) on the left.
FROM I-85: Take Highway 74 West Exit at Kings Mountain/Shelby,
North Carolina. Follow to the Highway 74-A West Exit to Forest City, North
Carolina. Follow Highway 74-A West through the Tri-City area of Forest
City, Spindale and Rutherfordton, North Carolina. Proceed 19 miles West
of Rutherfordton continuing on Highway 74-A West to Bill’s Creek
Road on the right. Turn right onto Bill’s Creek Road and go 2.5
miles. Turn left onto Buffalo Creek Road and go 1 mile to the Fairfield
Mountains Registration Office (large white building with green trim) on
the left.
The closet major airport is located in Asheville, North Carolina –
45 miles away.
NOTE: The Registration Office closes at 6:00 p.m. each
day. If you will arrive past that time, please call 828-625-9111, ext.
2503 or 0 (operator) prior to 6:00 p.m., to obtain Late Arrival Information.

national parks along its route), passes less than 30 miles away. The homes
of two of America's most distinguished writers, Thomas Wolfe and Carl Sandburg,
both within a 40-mile radius of Lake Lure, are preserved for public enjoyment. |

3,000 feet above mean sea level on the east, and the Great Smoky Mountains
